Motions are “calls for action.” This is the essence of what we are all about: action.
NVD is not here to register opinions, or to communicate ideas. We do those things also, but our real purpose is to act.
A Motion describes an action in as precise detail as is necessary to gain aproval from the members. Consider the following Motion, for example:
I move that we produce a first NVD Press Release, announcing our launching on the Internet, and our congressional campaign. The Press Release will be written by Mr. Rosen, and faxed to newspapers in the Second District, without further proofing or approval by NVD.
As you can see, the author calls for a press release, and its purpose (to announce the launching of our site on the Internet). The Motion stipulates that the press release will be written by a specific person, and that it will be faxed to newspapers in the Second District. No stipulations are made about the specific content or form of the press release, and in fact the Motion explicitly states that it will not be subject to review. It is intended here that the author be trusted for the form and content, which is implied by the clear directive.
It’s that simple. Anyone can do it. If you have an idea for furthering our congressional campaign, or for improving our organizational procedures, please don’t hesitate to propose a Motion.
Your idea may change the world.
