Robert’s Rules of Order 2.0

Nevada Vote Direct employs the latest digital technology to implement its Decision Management System. This cutting-edge technology enables our members to vote on specific legislation pending in Congress, and also to formulate more general rules that will CONTROL the actions of our representative in Congress (after Mr. Daniel Rosen, our candidate, is elected in November 2006).

But we are governed by the same venerable and time-tested principles of democratic order that were so ably codified in 1876 by Major Henry M. Robert, U.S. Corps of Engineers. He defined his work as “A Compendium of Parliamentary Law, based upon the rules and practice of Congress.” It is a marvel of clear and concise thinking, and has been the standard guide for the deliberations of societies of all types ever since.

Now, for the first time, Robert’s Rules of Order has been revised for the Internet by Daniel Rosen, the developer of Vox Populi Decision Management Software . As Mr. Rosen explains, “It’s done very much in the spirit that Major Robert breathed into the original work. For he intended to preserve tradition as embodied in ancient English practice while at the same time making it relevant and useful in a new context, which was the American republic. The English parliamentarians had retained a great deal of decorous posturing that was not appropriate in our own much less hierarchical society. Major Robert dispensed with all of these unnecessary acretions. And my revision of Robert’s Rules for the Internet dispenses with other limitations and restrictions that are no longer required in the “virtual space” of the Internet. Nineteenth-century meetings took place in real time and real space. But, since the Internet is always ON, Robert’s Rules 2.0 allows people to meet without being in the same room (or at the same time if that is not specifically desired), thus actually simplifying many of the procedures that used to be much more complicated.”

At present, our Parliamentarian (the person who mediates any procedural disputes that may possibly develop - subject to appeal to the membership, of course) is Mr. Rosen. As the author of Robert’s Rules 2.0 he is emminently qualified for this position. Naturally, however, he is searching for a replacement so that he can devote his entire attention to the campaign.
